Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded two grants totaling $48,000 to provide law enforcement equipment to police departments in Bay Minette and Satsuma.

Gov. Ivey awarded $24,000 each to the departments to upgrade equipment enabling the officers to do their jobs more efficiently and effectively.

“Alabama is fortunate to have so many brave men and women step up to the call and serve in our law enforcement,” Gov. Ivey said. “As they protect our communities each day, they must have the resources necessary. I am pleased to provide these funds to assist them in their duty.”

The Bay Minette Police Department will use the grant to provide rifles that could be used in violent situations such as defense against an active shooter or in a hostage situation.

The Satsuma Police Department will invest funds in vehicle-mounted radar systems, an electronic fingerprint scanner and necessary firearms.

The grants were awarded from funds supplied to the state through the U.S. Department of Justice. The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants.

“ADECA joins Gov. Ivey in supporting these two police departments by helping them purchase this needed equipment,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said.

ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, victim programs, economic development, water resource management, energy conservation and recreation.
