CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, US, May 9, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ -- On Saturday June 8th, the Scientology Volunteer Ministers will host a Children’s Day Festival for the Day of the Child at the Osceola Courtyard in downtown Clearwater. The festival will run from 5 to 8 pm and will include a variety of games, a magic show, a bounce house, water slide, face painting, arts and crafts and more. About 30 children from Grupo Folklorico Mahetzi, an organization dedicated to teaching Mexican children about their heritage, history and culture, will perform at the festival.

Glendy Goodsell, the Executive Director of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers Florida and the organizer for the event said, “There’s Mother's Day and Father's Day, but children need a special day too – ‘día del niño’. We are making sure children in our Greater Tampa Bay area will have this very special day just for them.”

Día del niño, or Children's Day, is an annual celebration held on April 30 throughout Mexico where it originated. Immigrants have brought the tradition over the years to the United States. President Álvaro Obregón and Public Education Minister José Vasconcelos accepted the Children's Rights Declaration in Mexico on April 30, 1925. Other Latin countries, such as, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, Bolivia and Ecuador celebrate this day on different dates. About 9% of the Clearwater population are originally from Latin countries especially Mexico.

About the Scientology Volunteer Ministers:

The Scientology Volunteer Minister (VM) program was launched more than thirty years ago, in response to an appeal by Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard. Noting a tremendous downturn in the level of ethics and morality in society, and a consequent increase in drugs and crime, Mr. Hubbard wrote, “If one does not like the crime, cruelty, injustice and violence of this society, he can do something about it. He can become a Volunteer Minister and help civilize it, bring it conscience and kindness and love and freedom from travail by instilling into it trust, decency, honesty and tolerance.”
