“As Muslims in America and around the world prepare to begin the holy month of Ramadan, I send my wishes for a very meaningful observance and say ‘Ramadan Mubarak’ to all participating.  I pray that this year’s Ramadan brings peace and hope, and that all people will be filled with a sense of connection during a time when so many in our country and the world are being made to feel disconnected from one another.  When families and communities gather to break the fast each evening, I hope that they will be joined by non-Muslim friends and neighbors in a spirit of fellowship and understanding, so that we may learn from one another and share our common aspirations for a better future. 

“I am proud to stand in solidarity with Muslim-American communities in the face of vile threats made against them in recent years, a product of vicious Islamophobia that continues to be a blight on our democracy.  The horrific shooting in Christchurch, New Zealand continues to shock and appall Americans, who as a nation together cherish freedom of worship and the protection of innocent life.  The House came together to condemn Islamophobia, racism, anti-Semitism, and all other forms of hatred earlier this year, and we will continue to act in a way that makes clear there can be no sanction for these forms of hatred in our country and work toward policies that promote equality, justice, and equal access to economic opportunities. We will never waver in our determination to eradicate hatred and intolerance from our country, no matter where it originates or whom it targets.”
