Hoyer Statement on Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

WASHINGTON, DC - House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement on Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, which is observed in May:

“I join in celebrating May as Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.  Since the early days of our republic, people from Asia and the Pacific have been coming to this country and helping to build its future.  The contributions of Asian-American and Pacific Islander communities to our country are immeasurable, with so many serving in government and the military, growing our economy through business and labor, making discoveries in science and medicine, and enriching our culture through the arts, entertainment, and sports.    “I am proud to work alongside Chairwoman Judy Chu and my colleagues in the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) to expand access to the opportunities that make the American Dream possible.  Together, as part of the most diverse Democratic Caucus in our history, we are fighting back against racism, xenophobia, inequality, and injustice, and we are standing up for voting rights, civil rights, and economic security for working families.  As I join in paying tribute to Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, I look forward to continuing to work closely with CAPAC and others to ensure that America lives up to its promise for all its people.”
