Gazprom Neft sets a horizontal-drilling record at its Tazovskoye field
Gazprom Neft subsidiary Gazpromneft-Razvitiye (Gazpromneft Development) has completed its drilling of high-tech horizontal wells with record-length horizontal sections running to more than 2,000 metres at its Tazovskoye field.

The Tazovskoye oil and gas condensate field is classified as a major field, albeit under-researched. Its reserves in place stand at 438 million tonnes of oil and 186 billion cubic metres of non-associated and gas-cap gas.
Gazpromneft-Razvitiye last year constructed 13 high-technology wells in the course of developing this asset, including two multilateral wells each involving two cased well-holes with horizontal shafts of more than 2,000 metres each, with the length of one of the horizontal shafts running to 2,263 metres, a record for Gazprom Neft. The wells at the Tazovskoye oil and gas condensate fields are comparable to offshore wells in their uniqueness and complexity.
Using a range of technical solutions — including high-torque drilling equipment — not typically utilised in standard drilling has helped drilling technicians achieve record results under the challenging conditions of the Tazovskoye field. Cumulative production since Gazpromneft-Razvitiye embarked on developing the Tazovskoye oil and gas condensate field now stands at more than 100,000 tonnes of oil.
Full-scale development of the Tazovskoye field will start in 2019, with high-tech wells involving horizontal sections of up to 2,500 metres in length due to be drilled during the course of that year. Construction of three multilateral wells is also envisaged, using “fishbone” technology. The number of blocks drilled at the field is expected to increase to four. Altogether, the development of the Tazovskoye oil and gas condensate field is expected to including drilling 132 oil and 10 gas wells. The commissioning and start-up of commercial development at this asset is set for 2020. Peak production is forecast at about 2.1 million tonnes by 2021.

The unique experience and competencies acquired in developing the Tazovsky field will subsequently be rolled out at other company assets involving hard-to-recover reserves.”
