GREEN MOUSE ACADEMY & ALPHABEST EDUCATION PARTNER WITH MAINFRAME STUDIOS ‘REBOOT: THE GUARDIAN CODE’ FOR HOUR OF CODE™

THEIR MISSION: TO INTRODUCE STUDENTS TO COMPUTER SCIENCE

Our goal is to enable kids to unlock opportunities that would effect positive change in their young lives and future careers.”
— Michael Hefferon, Creator of ReBoot: The Guardian Code
NEW YORK CITY, NYC, USA, December 5, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- (Vancouver, BC – December 5, 2018) Computers are everywhere. They’re in our pockets. They’re on our walls. They’re in our cars and even in our appliances. They’re a critical piece of our infrastructure, from power grids to traffic lights to the inner workings of our financial markets. And all of these essential computers have one thing in common - they depend on software to tell them what to do.

But who exactly is going to write this software? In 2018, there were over half a million unfilled tech jobs in the US alone.

Mainframe Studios ReBoot: The Guardian Code along with AlphaBEST Education and Green Mouse Academy will introduce nearly 25,000 students to the largest learning event in history, The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (December 3-9). The Hour of Code, organized by the nonprofit Code.org and over 100 partners, is a global movement that believes the students of today are ready to learn critical skills for 21st-century success and those skills include software coding.

AlphaBEST Education is a leading provider of quality before and after school enrichment-based programs for students in over 300 schools throughout the country. Through its long-standing partnership with leading STEM content creator, Green Mouse Academy, AlphaBEST has provided weekly coding discovery experiences to its students for many years.

Code.org was honored to present to the G20 Education Ministers (representing 70% of the world’s schools), and to invite students to introduce the ministers to computer science. The G20 Education Ministers’ Declaration recommended the integration of “computing and coding skills within the curriculum,” adding to the global consensus around computer science. Shane Vander Kooi, founder of Green Mouse Academy, says “It’s been a lot of fun putting together this Scratch activity for AlphaBEST students to celebrate the Hour of Code™. It’s a great starting point for kids to get engaged and what we really want to see happen is to make coding more accessible and achievable, and have kids employ important thinking skills while learning through play.”

“Some really smart people at the MIT Media Lab created Scratch as a fun, easy to use, drag and drop programming language that kids can dive into without any prior learning experience. AlphaBEST wanted an activity to complement what their students were already doing after school by having something they could explore at home along with their parents to celebrate the Hour of Code and be a part of a global mission.”

Vander Kooi continued, “The partnership with Mainframe Studios has made this even more fun for us as we were able to pull in some of the visual content, key storyline messages and characters associated with the Netflix Original Series, ReBoot: The Guardian Code. Harnessing entertaining themes to encourage learning through discovery has always been what Green Mouse Academy is all about. Michael Hefferon and the team at Mainframe Studios understand and embrace ‘Edutainment’ as a valuable vehicle to deliver important messages and ignite curiosity in kids.”

Miami Heat NBA All-Star, Chris Bosh says “Coding is very important when you think about the future, where everything is going. With more phones and tablets and computers being made, and more people having access to everything and information being shared, I think it's very important to be able to learn the language of coding and programming.”
“The Hour of Code is just a first step in this collaboration and we’re looking forward to more joint efforts around harnessing the show to inspire kids to learn to code”, says ReBoot: The Guardian Code creator Michael Hefferon. “Our goal is to enable kids to unlock opportunities that would effect positive change in their young lives and future careers.”
