CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, USA, September 27, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- On Saturday September 22nd, The Church of Scientology Flag Service Organization hosted a celebration for 85 people from various faith traditions in honor of the International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) at the historic Fort Harrison, downtown Clearwater. Father Bob Swick, President of the Tampa Bay Veterans Alliance and Clearwater police chaplain; and Imam Askia Muhammad Aquil, member of the Hillsborough Association of Religious Leaders were awarded for their work in gaining proclamations from Clearwater, Dunedin, Tampa, St. Petersburg and the Pinellas County commission as well as a letter from state Senator, Darryl Rouson all recognizing 2018 International Day of Peace 2018.

Rev. Dr. Manuel Sykes, pastor of Bethel Community Baptist Church in his delivery of the main address, told the audience, “As a minister and someone who has not only worked with other pastors, but helped to found an interfaith organization… I firmly believe it is our duty as ministers to come together and work to ensure that human rights are being practiced among us and throughout our communities.”

In recognition of the theme laid down by the United Nations for this year’s Peace Day – the 70th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights - the “Story of Human Rights”, a nine-minute documentary on the history of Human Rights produced by United for Human Rights and the Church of Scientology, was shown.

After the speeches, Pastor Sykes launched the Year of Peace from now until 2019 International Day of Peace – a campaign to get churches and religious organizations throughout the area to adopt a month for raising awareness of peace initiatives throughout Tampa Bay.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE:

The International Day of Peace ("Peace Day") is observed around the world each year on 21 September. UNITED FOR HUMAN RIGHTS:

United for Human Rights is a non-profit, non-religious, educational program dedicated to teaching the community their human rights, specifically the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, to inspire them to become advocates for peace and tolerance. United for Human Rights and its programs are based on principles expressed by Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard, who in 1969 observed, "Human rights must be made a fact, not an idealistic dream."
