THE MUSEUM OF LATIN AMERICAN ART Presents Cecelia Paredes.

Members Opening will take place on Saturday, September 15, 2018.

LONG BEACH, CA, USA, September 10, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ --

The Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA), the MOLAA Board of Directors and Dr. Lourdes I. Ramos presents the exquisite work of Cecelia Paredes. The Members Opening Reception will take place on Saturday, September 15 from 6:00-8:00 PM.

Cecilia Paredes is a Peruvian-born multimedia artist residing in Philadelphia where she is a visiting professor at the University of Pennsylvania. Her primary themes include the power of nature, femininity, and migration, which have been subjects of many of her shows. She frequently utilizes natural elements, often recycled waste materials and primarily organic ones, in her installations. One of her best-known works is "Paisajes" in which she camouflages herself and uses her own figure as a canvas for body painting.

Dr. Lourdes Ramos, President and CEO of MOLAA shares: “Groundbreaking artists that push past the limits of artistic expectations is what we present at MOLAA. Cecelia Paredes is a peerless pioneer that embodies a vibrant spirit that we are pleased to feature at our museum.”

Known for inserting herself into her work, Paredes is often the central subject of her art, yet she is often unrecognizable, remaining obscured amongst the use of the natural materials she uses in her work. This is an extraordinary contradiction for an artist whose body of work does anything but blends into the background.

Reviews of her shows have stated that Paredes intentionally puts the viewer off-balance by erasing the line between body and background, throwing what’s real into question in both the artist and her backdrop, and Paredes rips off the stable ground beneath her viewers’ feet. MOLAA is pleased to present a balanced Cecelia Paredes exhibition that will enthrall viewers.

About the Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) The internationally recognized Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) was founded in 1996 in Long Beach, California and serves the greater Los Angeles area. MOLAA is the only museum in the United States dedicated to modern and contemporary Latin American and Latino art. In 2007 MOLAA unveiled its newly renovated and expanded campus designed by prominent Mexican architect, Manuel Rosen. The expansion more than doubled the Museum's size adding a 15,000-square foot sculpture garden.
With its physical expansion complete, MOLAA’s focus is on strengthening its collection, that now numbers over 1,600 works of art and maintaining its position as a multidisciplinary institution providing cross-cultural dialogue.
