Plug-in connectors in frosty surrounding

Conveyors equipped with M15 Power offer process reliability – even under adverse temperature conditions.

Plug-in connectors often have to withstand considerable external stresses under the most adverse conditions and yet still keep perform-ing reliably.

BESIGHEIM, BADEN-WüRTTEMBERG, GERMANY, June 8, 2018 / -- Hundreds of metres of conveyors and frantic activity as far as the eye can see. The order picking chain of a modern food wholesaler works at a strict tempo, supplying products such as frozen pizza or vegetables to provide retailers with what is termed convenience food. Large quantities have to be assembled, sorted, packed and delivered within a tight time frame. The cold chain must not be broken – from preparing the goods until they are shipped. Regulations on this in the food sector are strict and there are good reasons for this. Products that have started to thaw can no longer be sold for hygiene reasons.

Accordingly, the logistics with the many electromechanical interfaces have to be designed to accommodate temperatures as low as -28 degrees. Con-veyor belts consist of numerous individual components made of materials that may be sensitive to cold. The failure of a small plug-in connector fitted to a motor below the conveyor belt may break the entire logistics chain. Fur-thermore, plug-in connectors like this can be found every few metres on motors directly on the conveyor belt. So a great deal depends on these aids that appear to be so insignificant. With its M15 Power plug-in connector LQ Mechatronik Systeme has an all-rounder that also copes with permanent frost. The whole electrical connection that consists of a cable and connect-or are suitable for use in deep freezers. M15 Power consists of a W-TEC 15 power cable and the X-TEC 15 circular plug-in connector.

Conditions that are the complete opposite also make life difficult for the systems. For instance, it is not frost but intense heat and high atmospheric humidity that adversely affect plug-in connectors at airports in hot climates. Yet, even at temperatures of up to +80 degrees Celsius in ovens, the plas-tic-coated, anti-tamper M15 Power operates reliably. Process reliability and a long service life are achieved thanks to a dust-proof and waterproof de-sign that complies with the IP67 protection class.

The M15 Power circular plug-in connector has a diameter of just 20 milli-metres and can therefore pass through small openings and apertures in the cable channels. This is new in the market because now prefabricated cables can be used for relatively small cable apertures, which previously could not be considered. It is therefore easier to distribute electrical lines. What is more, the small openings largely protect the cable ducts from dirt in the environment. T-connectors from the M15 Power range are used to dis-tribute power between the trunk cables and spur lines that connect to the motors. They have the same pole patterns so that, here too, the connector just has to be plugged in to connect and distribute electrical power – just as safe, fast and simple.
