Description: Sunscreen can harm the Coral Reefs. Tourists and other users of the oceans are often unaware of this problem and do not know how to check their sunscreen. The ‘International Coral Reef Initiative’ declared 2018 as the third International Year of the Reef (IYOR). The app ‘Sunscreen Coral Reef’ contributes to the goals of the International Year of the Reef (IYOR) to strengthen awareness by providing an easy-to-use iPhone app to check sunscreen for toxic chemicals.

Functionality: Scan the list of ingredients of your sunscreen and the app will tell you if the sunscreen is harmful for Coral Reefs.
Availability: iOS Apple Store
Version: Beta
Detailed functionality: The user takes a picture of the list of ingredients of the sunscreen. The app reads and analyzes the ingredients.
If the app recognizes 'Oxybenzone', 'Benzophenone-3' or 'BP-3' then it gives the user a warning sign. 
If the app recognizes Zinc Oxide, Avobenzone, Homosalate, Titanium dioxide, Octisalate, Octocrylene or Octinoxate, then it gives an 'OK'. 
If it does not recognize any of above mentioned ingredients, then no analysis is possible and the user needs to improve the picture taken of the bottle of sunscreen.
