For the first time in Tokyo – “The Great British Weekend”

A full-weekend of British culture awaits you amid the splendour of the Christmas illuminations of Roppongi Hills – the biggest British event in Japan

TOKYO , MINATO-KU, JAPAN, December 5, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- This Friday 8th December, “The Great British Weekend” will open its doors to the public at The Roppongi Hills Arena, bringing a wave of red, white and blue to Roppongi right through to Sunday 10th December, complementing the Christmas illuminations during the peak season at Roppongi Hills, with some 160,000 people expected each day.

“The Great British Weekend”, presented by La Ditta Limited, is set to be an outdoor celebration of British culture in Japan on an unprecedented scale. It will feature an array of British icons, from a red London double-decker bus to a collection of 10 Paddington Bear statues on display. Companies such as the BBC, Bentley, Jaguar Land Rover and Radley to name but a few, all showcasing their brands. Recently confirmed additions to the event include Baird Brewery, Bangers N’ Mash, The Beatles Story, Bellas Cupcakes, British School in Tokyo, deVere Acuma, English Tea Shop, Japan Cricket Association, Sanrio (Mr. Men and Little Miss) and Tunnock’s. The event is supported by The Japan Times.

The opening on Friday 8th December will see a VIP & Media Launch Event (at 430pm) with refreshments provided by Berry Bros. & Rudd, English Tea Shop, Radley, and Bellas Cupcakes, just prior to the event’s public opening (from 6 pm).

Hunter, the British fashion brand, have kindly provided fashionable wear for the event to event staff, comprised primarily of British School in Tokyo students, who not only join as volunteers to help support the event but will also give a variety of music performances. The British School Tokyo Choir will be joining Julia Mascetti in performing at the VIP event, singing the British and Japanese national anthems as well as a series of Christmas carols, while the British School Tokyo Jazz Band and a Sixth Form band will also be performing on Sunday 10 December.

On-stage, Tokyo-based Anglo-Japanese band, The Watanabes, who just released their second album in November, will be performing several sets at the event, with British Harpist, Julia Mascetti, set to perform a variety of music hailing from the British Isles, from classical to Celtic through to folk and contemporary pop pieces. Gigabar Band will also be performing British classics from the 60s through to the present day. In keeping with the British music theme, The Beatles Story, the must-see Beatles experience in Liverpool, are kindly contributing a Beatles goody bag for a lucky attendee to receive.

Other performers include Yayoi Daimon, Rolling Stones cover duo K ‘n’ K, Abraham Funk Train, Led Zeppelin cover band Heaven+ and on the bagpipes and drums will be by the Tokyo Pipe Band. The full event performance schedule can be seen beneath the list of participating companies.
