Innopolis University to develop high-precision geomechanical modeling techniques for Gazprom

Release

Oleg Aksyutin, Member of the Management Committee, Head of Department of Gazprom, and Kirill Semenikhin, Director of the Innopolis University autonomous non-commercial higher education institution, today signed a Contract for design and engineering at the 7th St. Petersburg International Gas Forum.

According to the document, the Innopolis University will develop high-precision computational techniques for Gazprom to conduct 1D and 3D geomechanical modeling with the purpose of assessing the physical characteristics and reactions of rock formations to external impacts during field development. The new techniques will help, inter alia, mitigate geological risks during exploration and at the early stages of development, as well as improve operational efficiency in the construction of producing wells. The University will also build a geological model of a licensed block operated by Gazprom.

The Contract with the Innopolis University is based on the Agreement on scientific & technical cooperation and partnership between Gazprom and the Republic of Tatarstan signed in the autumn of 2016.

Background

The 7th St. Petersburg International Gas Forum is being held as part of the Energy Efficiency and Energy Development International Forum 'Russian Energy Week.'

The Innopolis University is a Russian higher education institution focused on education and research in the field of IT and robotics. Two more contracts for R&D and engineering to be signed by Gazprom and the University are being drafted at the moment.
