California law spells out what drivers and passengers must do if they are involved in truck accidents.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA, UNITED STATES, October 6, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Step one is to offer reasonable assistance to anyone in the accident. This brings up the question, what is “reasonable”? LA personal injury attorney, Simon P. Etehad, said that this means doing what you are trained to do.

"If you are a paramedic, then obviously, you can give a lot more help than someone who is not trained in CPR," he said. "If you don't know any first aid skills, then your reasonable assistance is to call 911 to get proper help. Do not move anyone who is injured unless they are in more danger because of where they are."

Drivers must also supply:

• Name and address

• Name and address of passengers

• Name and address of the truck owner, if different

• Registration and insurance

• Driver's license, if requested

"Call law enforcement, too. California law requires the law be called if the accident has resulted in injuries. If the wreck involves a big rig, injuries are almost guaranteed," Mr. Etehad said. "When the police show up, answer all their questions, but do not volunteer information."

“Do not volunteer information to anyone,” he added.

"The less you say, the better off you will be in the long term," he said. "Trucking companies will use anything you say to try and wiggle out of any responsibility."

As soon as possible, call an attorney. Mr. Etehad said the trucking company's attorney is called as soon as the truck dispatcher finds out about the wreck.

"Do not talk to their attorney, either. Let me handle that," he said.
