NEW YORK, NY, USA, September 27, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The Wisconsin Chapter of the Lymphatic Education & Research Network (LE&RN) will host the 2nd annual WI Run/Walk to Fight Lymphedema & Lymphatic Diseases on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the Peshtigo High School Track Field. The 5K winds through the surrounding neighborhood before returning to the school, and participants are encouraged to run or walk as much or as little as is comfortable for them. Registration is $25 and well-behaved, leashed pets are welcome.

“I live with this disease,” said LE&RN WI Chapter Co-Chair and event organizer Becca Kobbus. “I don’t want others to suffer as I have, feeling alone and helpless. This Run/Walk is for all lymphatic patients around the world.”

Becca’s ten-year-old daughter, Alaina Archambault of Peshtigo, will be honored as a LE&RN WI Youth Ambassador at the event. Alaina has become a fierce advocate for LE and LD patients, attending meetings and writing letters to legislators regarding LE and LD. The now-fifth-grader assisted in the ultimately successful effort by the WI LE&RN Chapter to recognize World Lymphedema Day in the city of Peshtigo, WI. Working with her school’s principal, she organized a Learning Day to educate students about LE on March 6, 2017. Her school science fair project, "Your Lymphatics, How it Works and What Happens When It Doesn't," received first place and the videotaped demonstration became a social media hit.

“I love to advocate,” said Alaina. “Advocacy helps others have better lives and gets people to pay attention.”
