IT Governance, the leading provider of information security and data protection expertise, to exhibit at the GDPR in the Public Sector Conference in Manchester.

ELY, UNITED KINGDOM, September 5, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The GDPR in the Public Sector Conference will explore the effect of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on local government, the NHS and all public sector bodies. This one-day conference will host seminars from industry professionals to help organisations prepare for the Regulation, which comes into effect in May 2018. There will be networking opportunities throughout the day and exhibitors, including IT Governance’s own GDPR experts, who will provide guidance and solutions for GDPR compliance.

The GDPR imposes key changes to enhance the data protection rights of EU residents. Organisations that process the personal data of EU residents will need to consider the appropriate technical and operational measures set out by the Regulation in order to achieve compliance and reduce the risk of a data breach. This is crucial for those in the public sector that hold sensitive data, such as financial and biometric details of individuals. By law, these particular organisations will be required to appoint a data protection officer (DPO).

The founder and executive chairman of IT Governance, Alan Calder, said that “public sector organisations have a responsibility to improve their underlying security practices and organisational governance to ensure minimal risk of cyber threat.

“The GDPR and the Network and Information Security (NIS) Directive introduce obligations to deal with information security incidents and report data breaches to the relevant supervisory authority without undue delay. Therefore, organisations will need to be prepared and equipped to deal with incidents.”

The conference will take place on 8 November at Adelphi House in Salford. Data protection and information security professionals interested in attending are encouraged to visit the event website to register and see more information about the agenda, including speakers and seminar topics.
