NEW YORK, NY, USA, September 1, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Hundreds of participants are expected at the first-ever Colorado 5K Run/Walk to Fight Lymphedema & Lymphatic Diseases at Sloan Lake in Denver on September 10. Registration opens at 8am, with the event beginning at 9am. Like other #LymphWalks around the country, the event seeks to raise awareness and funding for lymphedema (LE) and lymphatic diseases (LD) education, research, and advocacy. The 2017 Colorado Run/Walk is sponsored by the Lymphatic Education & Research Network (LE&RN) and by the Colorado Chapter of LE&RN, Co-Chaired by Marie Apodaca and Angela Marquez.
Before participants begin the 5K course, Dr. Lily Daniali (plastic surgeon specializing in lymphedema at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, CO) and Guenter Klose (Founder of Klose Training & Consulting, LLC, therapist training center) will address patients, caregivers, health care providers, and activists. Two awards will be presented: one to Vicki Ralph, Senior Occupational Therapist at UCHealth, and one to Lance Wheeland, Chief of Staff to CO Senator Irene Aguilar. Both awardees have been instrumental in raising lymphedema awareness and active in the 2017 effort to recognize World Lymphedema Day in the State of Colorado.

“One of the goals of this inaugural Run/Walk is to give ‘lymphies’ a sense of community, while raising broader public awareness of lymphedema (LE), lipedema, and other lymphatic diseases (LD),” said Chapter co-Chair Marie Apodaca. “We hope that patients will learn about resources in Colorado.”

“A year ago I was diagnosed with LE,” added Chapter co-Chair Angela Marquez, “And now I am hosting Colorado’s Inaugural Run/Walk for LE&RN. LE&RN has given me a platform to bring LE and LD awareness to my home state. I am also thrilled that my niece, Grace Hernandez will perform the National Anthem at the Walk. She and her family are travelling to Colorado from Kansas City for the event.”
