German Lean Consultant supports chinese medical device manufacturer

KARLSRUHE, GERMANY, August 29, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- German Lean Management Consultant Gerhard W. Kessler has recently been another time in Beijing to continue the support of a Chinese medical device manufacturer. Already in 2016 he startet to introduce the Lean principles in the company. The major goal was to create awareness for Muda (the Japanese word for waste) and to redefine the S&OP process in order to get production capabilities aligned to the actual sales trend. On the floor he introduced 5-S-methods and coached to the supervisors to see deviations. It was very surprising to the mid-level managers how much should be done in order to have a better material flow and organized work stations. Using the basic technique of Taiichi Ohno of “standing in a circle” they learned to see and understood that every time they are on the floor, they should take some minutes to observe the actual situation. By doing that, new ideas for a better layout came up and new tools were discussed in the group. After the sessions in 2016 and the follow up, which was done as an audit, the overall layout has changed, more space was freed up for value added functions and an improved flow is very visible. “Changes can only be implemented with a clear commitment by the management and the integration of the people on the floor” Kessler said. “Lean is not a dictate from the top, as it is more a method which supports every function to do it better step by step” he mentioned. But Kessler is sure, that he can implement Lean tools in every company based on a continuous improvement process which is the base for any future improvement.
