This is more common than you can imagine, just think about boats that have bilge pumps always working, this over time will flatten the batteries, especially if the battery charger is not working, or not connected.

Fortunately for everyone Victron has developed an awesome product called the Victron BatteryProtect, and it does just that, protects your batteries from going flat. It is designed to work on both 12V and 24V system, but the key features is that it disconnects the circuit and sets off an alarm (if you decide to connect one) when the battery is really low, but not low enough to prevent you from cranking the engine. So you could call it a safe guard for your batteries to stop them going flat.

There are three models in the range BP-65 which is 65 Amps, BP-100 which is 100 Amps and the BP-220 which is 220 Amps. The BatteryProtect disconnects the battery from non essential loads before it is completely discharged (which would damage the battery) or before it has insufficient power left to crank the engine.

The technology inside the Victron BatteryProtect is designed to work fully automatically so it detects if it is a 12V or 24V DC system and then does the calculations and knows at which voltage point to disconnect your circuits to prevent your batteries going dead flat, and leaving you enough power to crank your engine and get going.

But this is not all the Victron BatteryProtect can be set to engage / disengage at several different voltages. The seven segment display will indicate which setting has been chosen, this gives you the user more control of when you want it to isolate your system from the batteries.

The Victron BatteryProtect also has a special setting for Li-ion batteries, in this mode the Battery Protect can be controlled by the VE.Bus BMS. Also those that want to get more out of the BatteryProtect, it can also be used as a charge interrupter in between a battery charger and a Li-ion battery.

Packed with other features such as over voltage protection, this helps to prevent damage to sensitive loads due to over voltage, which means that the load is disconnected whenever the DC voltage exceeds 16V respectively 32V. It is also ignition proof, there are no relays only electronic MOSFET switches, and therefore no sparks.
