Convergence is an exhibition of student art and academic learning featuring the work of elementary and high school students from 17 Chicago Public Schools

CHICAGO, IL, USA, May 23, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The CONVERGENCE exhibition showcases the innovative works of visual, digital, and performing art created by students participating in CAPE’s Artist/Researcher Program at 17 Chicago Public Schools. The Artist/Researcher Program brings together experienced classroom teachers and professional teaching artists to weave the arts into academic subject matter, and the resulting artworks rely upon and highlight both areas. Several key events will occur during the Convergence exhibition’s run:

• May 25, 11:30am to 1pm – Brownbag Lunch Panel Discussion focused on curation and the exhibition of student work
• June 1, 5pm to 8pm - A gallery closing celebration that will feature gallery tours, refreshments, and the opportunity to meet artists and teachers whose work is on display
• Ongoing- Student Field Trips to the gallery will allow students to see their own artwork in a professional gallery setting alongside the work from other CAPE schools.
• Ongoing- Workshops for CAPE teachers and teaching artists on a variety of topics related to the creation, curation, and exhibition of student work

Artwork on display includes:
• E-textiles and tapestries created by 4th graders at Durkin Park Elementary as they explored electrical circuitry
• Large-scale, 3D maps created by special education students at Ray Graham that highlight community resources available to them as they transition to life after graduation
• A collection of postcards designed by 8th graders at Telpochcalli Elementary that use metaphors and symbolism to encourage immigrant advocacy and activism in their community.
