Toronto (Canada). April 11. With the start of April, which is Parkinson’s Awareness month, the founder of World Parkinson’s Program, Dr. A.Q. Rana, has decided to call upon more than hundred world leaders to help raise awareness of Parkinson’s disease in their respective countries. Dr.Rana has written personal letters to the leaders of 100 countries, and many celebrities, requesting them to give statements to their followers, country men, public, and media, to support the cause of Parkinson’s disease.

This campaign of World Parkinson’s Program will help enhance education amongst the common public about the debilitating effects of this condition. Dr. Rana has also alarmed world authorities about the rising number of Parkinson’s patients globally, due to ageing, and encouraged them to increase the resources as well. There are about 10 million people affected with Parkinson’s disease in the world and their number may double by 2031. Millions of those struggling with Parkinson’s are living in poverty in various parts of world, and are not able afford medications and walking aids. They also lack access to educational literature about Parkinson’s in the languages they understand. In many cultures, symptoms of Parkinson’s disease are wrongly attributed to ageing, and therefore many patients remain undiagnosed and thus untreated.

Since celebrities and leaders have followers and influence others, people will learn more about this disease when these authorities and famous people refer to April as Parkinson’s Awareness month. Dr.Rana believes that such a campaign of involving world leaders will have a global impact on the cause of Parkinson’s disease. World Parkinson’s Program is a Canadian based charitable organization dedicated to improving the daily lives of Parkinson’s patients and their access to better treatment for Parkinson’s at a global level.
