STATEN ISLAND, NY, UNITED STATES, January 8, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- St. Joseph by-the-Sea High School has formally announced its plans to build a state-of-the-art Student Center on its campus with ground breaking to commence in the Spring of 2016. The 15,600 square foot building will be two levels and feature a state-of-the-art weight room, cheerleading and dance room, three locker rooms for student athletes, and an after school café for students to enjoy while on campus in the afternoon. The existing weight room will become a wrestling room and the existing second gym will be game ready, giving the school two regulation size basketball courts. The addition will be added to the back of the building alongside the current gym, and also boast second level stadium seating open to the existing gym to accommodate the crowds for indoor sporting events.

“We’re very excited about this project,” said Father Michael P. Reilly, Principal of St. Joseph by-the-Sea. “The student center will serve the hundreds of students who stay after school for sports and activities, and also enhance the overall high school experience by providing a more collegiate atmosphere.”

The project is scheduled to begin sometime this Spring. Sportsfield Engineering, the company that recently resurfaced the football field with the latest in artificial turf technology, will design the building and oversee its construction.

“SportsField Engineering is thrilled to be working again with St. Joseph by-the-Sea High School,” said Jeromy Olson, Chief Executive Officer of Sportsfield Engineering. “The new Viking Student Center will be a world class facility that benefits the entire student body and the Staten Island community for decades to come. Featuring the most current design concepts from the sports industry, the new student center will promote the Full High School Experience for which St. Joseph by-the-Sea High School is so well known. We are truly honored to partner with this esteemed institution on this campus improving project.”
