Shingles and Diabetes: Is there a Link?; The CBCD Reviews a Study
A study showed that patients with type-1 diabetes are twice as likely to develop herpes zoster. (1)
“Infected with the varicella zoster virus (the virus that causes chickenpox and shingles)? The CBCD recommends taking Gene-Eden-VIR or Novirin.” - Greg Bennett, CBCD
A recent study showed that individuals with type-1 diabetes (T1DM), have a weakened immune system. The varicella zoster virus (VZV) is a herpes virus, which causes both chickenpox and shingles (also called herpes zoster or HZ). If an individual ever had chickenpox or was vaccinated with the chickenpox vaccine, he or she still has the VZV in their system in a latent (sleeping or dormant) state. When the immune system is weakened, the virus may wake up and cause shingles. Dr. Hsin-Hung Chen and colleagues wrote that “Patients with diabetes or immunocompromised conditions are at a high risk of herpes zoster (HZ). Impaired cell-mediated immunity was observed in patients with type 1 diabetes (T1DM), making them susceptible to HZ infections. Latent varicella herpes virus can cause HZ in patients with impaired cell-mediated immunity.” (1) School of Medicine and Public Health at the Chung Shan Medical University in Taichung, Taiwan. The study was published in the prestigious medical journal PloS One.

“Shingles, or herpes zoster, is a viral infection caused by the chickenpox virus. Symptoms include pain and a rash on one side of the body. Shingles most commonly affects older adults and people with weak immune systems … symptoms of shingles include: pain or a bruised feeling -- usually on one side of your face or body -- often along with a fever, chills, headache, or upset stomach, tingling, itching, or prickling skin, followed several days later by a group of fluid-filled blisters on a red, inflamed base of skin, deep burning, searing, aching, or stabbing pain, which may occur once in a while or last a long time.” (2)
The Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD) recommends that anyone who has ever had chickenpox or has received the chickenpox vaccine, take Gene-Eden-VIR or Novirin. The formula of these natural antiviral products was shown to reduce symptoms associated with viruses in the herpes family. Additionally, it was designed to help the immune system target the latent form of the VZV.
The formula of Gene-Eden-VIR and Novirin was tested by Hanan Polansky and Edan Itzkovitz from the CBCD. The studies showed that the Gene-Eden-VIR and Novirin formula is effective against the herpes family of viruses. Varicella Zoster is a member of the herpes family. The clinical studies were published in the peer reviewed, medical journal Pharmacology & Pharmacy, the first, in a special edition on Advances in Antiviral Drugs. Study authors wrote that, “individuals infected with the (herpes viruses) … reported a safe decrease in their symptoms following treatment with Gene-Eden-VIR.” (3) The study authors also wrote that, “we observed a statistically significant decrease in the severity, duration, and frequency of symptoms.” (3)

Gene-Eden-VIR and Novirin are natural antiviral dietary supplements. Their formula contains five natural ingredients: Selenium, Camellia Sinesis Extract, Quercetin, Cinnamomum Extract, and Licorice Extract. The first ingredient is a trace element, and the other four are plant extracts. Each ingredient and its dose was chosen through a scientific approach. Scientists at polyDNA, the company that invented and patented the formula, scanned thousands of scientific and medical papers published in various medical and scientific journals, and identified the safest and most effective natural ingredients against latent viruses. To date, Gene-Eden-VIR and Novirin are the only natural antiviral products on the market with published clinical studies that support their claims.
Note: Novirin shares the same formula as Gene-Eden-VIR. The difference between the two is that Novirin has higher quality and more expensive ingredients.
The CDC notes that the varicella zoster virus (VZV), which is a herpes virus, causes both chickenpox and shingles. “After a person recovers from chickenpox, the virus stays dormant (inactive) in the body. For reasons that are not fully known, the virus can reactivate years later, causing shingles.” (4) Additionally, the CDC adds that “almost 1 out of every 3 people in the United States will develop shingles, also known as zoster or herpes zoster, in their lifetime. There are an estimated 1 million cases of shingles each year in this country. Anyone who has recovered from chickenpox may develop shingles; even children can get shingles. However the risk of shingles increases as you get older. About half of all cases occur in men and women 60 years old or older.” (4)
Are there treatments currently on the market, which target the Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV)?
Yes there are.
Zostavax is a vaccine that may reduce the risk of developing a shingles outbreak, and decrease the long-term pain from post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN). In adults vaccinated at age 60 years or older, however, protection from the vaccine decreases within the first 5 years after vaccination. (4)
There are also antiviral drugs, such as Zovirax or Valtrex. However, these medications, when effective, only work to shorten the time of the shingles outbreak. They are ineffective against the latent VZV virus. (4)
Gene-Eden-VIR and Novirin are natural remedies designed to help the immune system target latent herpes viruses, including the VZV. (3)
The CBCD reminds the public that Gene-Eden-VIR and Novirin are not a cure. However, two clinical studies, published in peer reviewed medical journals showed that their formula decreases symptoms in infected individuals. Specifically, the formula of Gene-Eden-VIR and Novirin was shown to safely and effectively reduce symptoms associated with viruses that belong to the herpes family. Additionally, it was designed to help the immune system target the latent form of these viruses.
