Austin Asian Chamber Marks Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

The Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce Observes Asian Pacific American Heritage Month with Ovation on May 20.

AUSTIN, TEXAS, USA, May 7, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ -- May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and the Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce (GAACC) observes this with Ovation, our annual awards gala at the JW Marriott on May 20.

Asian Pacific Americans are the fastest growing racial group in Central Texas, growing twice as fast as the general population. There are an estimated 103,000 living in the Austin-Round Rock area and about 13,000 Asian owned businesses. This number is growing at a blistering 44 percent rate, creating jobs and contributing to the local economy.

Patient’s Premier Choice is one of these businesses and is being recognized at Ovation. Born out of founder Linh Tu’s own experience with her daughter Jaelin, it provides pediatric home healthcare services for other special children. GAACC supported Linh from the start, with low cost office space, support in applying for her small business loan, connecting her to professional services such as insurance and legal, as well as with promoting her job openings for nurses. We will be honoring several other businesses and organizations; PowerFin Partners, 360Training.com, NXP, Powershift Group, and EIXSYS Healthcare Systems non-profit.

“There is no greater power shift for us than the bilateral relationship between Austin and leading Asian markets," said Steve Papermaster, Chairman and CEO of Powershift. “In many ways Austin is a smaller but similar emerging global city much like the larger Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai. We intend to aggressively build our companies to take maximum advantage of the leverage between Austin and key Asian innovation centers and growth markets.”

GAACC is particularly excited about the leaders that we are recognizing; The Honorable Norman Mineta, the first Asian American to hold a presidential cabinet post and one of the original proposers for an Asian Pacific American heritage designation as well as Senator Kirk Watson for his tireless efforts in changing the local healthcare landscape.

"It's an honor to be recognized by the Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce for my vision to make Austin a model healthy community. The healthcare transformation underway in our community will also transform our economy. And I look forward to the innovative opportunities we are creating for all Austinites," said Senator Watson.

A limited number of tickets to Ovation still available at www.OvationGala.org

GAACC supports business relationships between Central Texas and Asia; organizing the Asia Business Summit which will take place on May 10 with a focus on Opportunities in Muslim Markets, managing the ATX+PAK technology firms who are currently in Austin, as well as working with delegations from and to Asia including the upcoming trip by Austin Mayor Steve Adler. www.AustinAsianChamber.org
