Last year, ZPC managing director Noah Gwariro, disclosed that the power generation company had completed the drilling and blasting of four access tunnels. He said drilling and blasting was in progress to create the underground powerhouse and the head race tunnels, which would direct water from the lake to the turbines. This will likely ease the merciless powercuts Zimbabwe receives from Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) but still there is a glitch KARIBA is running Dry.

Zambian Energy Minister Dora Siliya revealed that the vast Kariba dam will not be filled up even if Zambia and Zimbabwe record normal rainfall in the current rainy season. Said Siliya "We will need more than three years of good rainfall to fill up the Kariba.’ This is not so good news for the mining industry relying on the Hydro Power generated at the dam.
Late last year Zimbabwe’s government has asked the nation’s biggest foreign-currency earners Impala Platinum Holdings Ltd., Anglo American Platinum Ltd. and other mining companies, to reduce power usage by 25 percent amid a water shortage that’s cut hydropower supply. It never rains ....
