Gazprom and E.ON address implementation of Nord Stream 2 project

St. Petersburg hosted today a working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee and Klaus Schaefer, Member of the E.ON Management Board.

The parties deliberated on the cooperation issues including, among other things, gas supplies.

Special attention was given to gas transmission projects. Alexey Miller and Klaus Schaefer pointed out the smooth running of the Nord Stream gas pipeline and discussed further steps on implementing the Nord Stream 2 project that would strongly boost the reliability of gas supply to European consumers.

Background

E.ON is Europe's largest investor-owned electric power and gas company.

Gazprom and E.ON work together in gas production (Yuzhno-Russkoye field), gas transmission (Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2), natural gas supply areas as well as sci-tech cooperation, best practices sharing and personnel training.

Running from Russia to Germany under the Baltic Sea, Nord Stream is an export gas pipeline with an annual capacity of 55 billion cubic meters. Nord Stream AG is a joint venture (Gazprom holds 51 per cent, E.ON and Wintershall – 15.5 per cent each, ENGIE and Gasunie- 9 per cent each) operating the project.

On September 4, 2015 Gazprom, BASF, E.ON, ENGIE, OMV and Shell inked the Shareholders Agreement to construct the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline system with an annual capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas from Russia to Germany across the Baltic Sea.
