The Food and Drink Federation (FDF) welcomes the second interim report of Courtauld Commitment 3, published by WRAP today, which shows significant progress towards its manufacturing and retail waste target.

Barbara Gallani, Director of Regulation, Science and Sustainability at FDF said: “We are delighted with the significant progress made by Courtauld Commitment 3 signatories, many of whom are our members, to reduce food and packaging waste.

“The latest progress report shows that actions by food and drink manufacturers have contributed to a considerable reduction in traditional grocery ingredient, product and packaging waste against the baseline year of 2012. In particular a reduction of 3.2% in operational waste has been recorded across the grocery sector, showing strong progress towards the overall 3% target by 2015 for the agreement. FDF member company signatories to the agreement have also helped to reduce carbon dioxide emissions associated with packaging.

“Reducing waste through the Courtauld Commitment makes a major contribution to the food and drink industry's efforts to deliver sustainable growth and improve resource efficiency. We are particularly pleased to see further evidence that voluntary agreements can deliver real progress towards these goals. We commend WRAP for their leadership in this area and we will continue to work towards delivering on all three targets of Courtauld Commitment 3.”
