FDF welcomes encouraging figures from A-level results day
13 August 2015
FDF welcomes today's A-level results figures, which have seen a 3% increase in students accepted onto UK university and college courses from last year (UCAS). It is particularly encouraging to see a significant rise in the number of maths and science entries in the last five years, which are key subjects for those wishing to enter the food and drink industry through avenues such as the BEng and MEng Food Engineering degrees at Sheffield Hallam University.
This is further reinforced by the result that 16,000 more women have taken up STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects since 2010, which is a particular priority for food and drink companies aiming to encourage more female representation in the industry, supported by our women into STEM pledge.
