FDF supports launch of new Virtual Authenticity Network
16 July 2015
“FDF welcomes the creation and launch of the UK's new Virtual Food Authenticity Network, a Government-sponsored initiative to help to bring together those involved in food authenticity testing. We are pleased to have contributed to the development of this initiative as part of our broader engagement with Defra and other key stakeholders on authenticity issues [1].
“We believe that the Food Authenticity Network will play a valuable role in disseminating information about the scope and applicability of test methodologies and in promoting laboratory best practice.
“The Network will support FDF members in the food authenticity testing they undertake, as part of their broader supply chain assurance activity to ensure that customers can have confidence in the food and drink they buy.
“FDF has also produced a best practice Food Authenticity Guide to help food and drink manufacturers to protect their business and customers. We also continue to maintain an open dialogue with UK and European regulators to ensure that manufacturers can access relevant information with regard to threats to the authenticity of food supply.”
- FDF is represented on:
- the Management Committee, which oversees the Virtual Food Authenticity Network to ensure its independence;
- Defra's Authenticity Steering Group, which is an interdepartmental and stakeholder group which aims to inform the national food authenticity programme through sharing of information and intelligence; and
- Defra's Authenticity Methodologies Working Group, which is an advisory body on analytical methods.
