South African retailers urged to ensure confidence buying online with ISO27001

IT Governance is urging organisations with an online presence to implement ISO 27001 to demonstrate that they take information security seriously.

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA, January 27, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- IT Governance, the international provider of information security solutions, is urging SA retailers and other organisations with an online presence to implement the international standard for information security management, ISO 27001, in order to reassure customers and demonstrate that they take information security seriously.

A 2014 PwC survey of 15,000 consumers from 15 territories examined attitudes to e-commerce and found that 38% of South Africans do not want to engage in online transactions because of a perceived lack of security and potential for credit card fraud.

Forecasts suggest that mobile Internet traffic across the African region will double between 2014 and 2015, and increase 20-fold by the end of the decade.

According to the new Digital Evolution Index developed by MasterCard, South Africa is “the most developed digital economy in Africa”, and one of the fastest growing in the world.

ISO 27001 allows organisations of all sizes, sectors, and locations to implement an information security management system (ISMS), which enables them to institute global information security best practices that address people, processes and technology.

By implementing an ISO 27001-compliant ISMS, organisations will benefit from having a systematic approach to managing confidential or sensitive corporate information so that it remains secure.

IT Governance has led hundreds of ISO 27001 certifications around the world and has now developed a series of fixed-price ISO 27001 implementation solutions to allow organisations of all sizes, sectors, and locations to use IT Governance’s expertise to implement the Standard at a speed and for a budget appropriate to their individual needs.

There are five core packages: The Basics, Do It Yourself, Get A Little Help, Get A Lot Of Help and We Do It For You, each of which provides a different level of support and resources.
