FDF welcomes Courtauld 2025 announcement
WRAP has announced today a proposed new framework for collaborative action across the food drink life-cycle to follow Courtauld 3 Commitment. The ten-year agreement (2016-2025) is named Courtauld 2025 and will differ significantly from previous commitments by taking a whole system view to address other areas of resource efficiency. The framework is still being developed and no targets have been identified. WRAP is consulting a range of stakeholders, with a plan to agree over-arching targets for carbon, water and waste reduction spanning the whole food system.
Welcoming the announcement, Melanie Leech, Director General of the Food and Drink Federation, the voice of UK food and drink manufacturers, said:
“Given the already huge pressure on the global food system we fully support the development of a new Courtauld 2025 framework and are actively involved in discussions to help shape its scope and to identify suitable targets. Reducing food waste remains one of the top priorities of our Five-fold Environmental Ambition. Through engagement in the WRAP Courtauld Commitment to date our members have already contributed to an absolute decrease in supply chain product and packaging waste and are on track to reach FDF's own target of sending zero food and packaging waste to landfill by 2015. To make further progress in all areas of resource efficiency we need to maximise the impact of our individual and collective efforts across the whole food system.”To see the full press release please visit WRAP's media centre.
