The production process atthe granulated sulphur facility isalmost entirely automated. Each granule has adiameter ofuptofive millimetres. The finished product ispacked inairtight bags (so-called “big bags”). Anew production management system, encompassing production, warehousing and despatch, has resulted inconsiderable environmental benefits, lower product losses, and ahigher quality ofthe final product delivered tocustomers.

The thoroughgoing reconstruction and refurbishment ofthe sulphur production facility isamong several priority ecological projects atthe Moscow Refinery, with plans for anew granulated sulphur facility developed aspart ofthe second phase ofthe full reconstruction and modernisation ofthe plant. The implementation ofall reconstruction works undertaken during this phase have reduced emissions 70-fold. The Moscow Refinery had previously completed reconstruction ofthe refinery’s sulphur recovery unit, BPS-2, in2013, following which the volume ofrefined hydrogen sulphide produced atthe plant increased by19percent.
