As the UAE construction continues to gain momentum, architects are pushing new limits when it comes to delivering innovative façade designs. Several new and re-launched projects are underway in the UAE in time for the Expo 2020, which will see a further 25 million visitors to the region. Thus project owners and architects are now establishing the tone for UAE architecture in time for the worldwide phenomenon and beyond Expo 2020 for future generations to witness.

“All eyes will be on Dubai by 2020. Dubai, as well as its neighbouring emirates, will need to be able to showcase exemplary architectural exteriors worthy of the world stage. The challenge architects face right now in achieving this feat is ensuring they maintain the traditional Arabic integrity of a façade whilst also exhibiting progressive international influence in the façade to cater for both UAE inhabitants and global spectators”, explains Jean Lelievre, Technical Director for Al Abbar Group.

In the lead-up to Expo 2020, both Abu Dhabi and Dubai municipalities introduced new green building codes for existing and future construction projects. The codes mark a turning point in UAE construction, as industry stakeholders are now mandated to consider sustainable and energy efficient designs and construction methods in order to comply with the codes.

“Now is a crucial time for architects and project stakeholders to meet and debate the changing face of the UAE,” states Paul Grove, Regional Director – Middle East for Meinhardt Group. “The façade plays a pivotal role in reducing a building’s carbon footprint. With the UAE governing bodies recently enforced building regulations which encompass the design and development of façades, it is imperative for designers and engineers to incorporate methodologies and technologies which culminate in a ‘green’ façade.”

The Façade Design & Engineering UAE Summit will be held from 8-9 September 2014 with an interactive Façade Lighting Focus Day on 7 September 2014. It will provide an exclusive opportunity for pioneers in UAE architecture to meet and discuss the latest innovations in façade design and construction, as well as some of the key techniques and strategies being used to shape the façades of the UAE. Additionally, the Lighting Focus Day will feature unique insights into some of the top projects from the Middle East which incorporate state-of-the-art lighting techniques, as well as discussions on the future of lighting technology in façades. Confirmed speakers include Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, HOK, BDP, RMJM, Ramboll, RSP, Meinhardt, Koltay Façades, WSP, Shapoorji Pallonji, and many more.
