The magic of Tat Wong Kung Fu brings stone statues to life for Chinese New Year Parade

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, USA, February 12, 2014 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The Southwest Airlines Chinese New Year Parade kicks off on February 15th with the Terracotta Warriors of China magically brought to life by the award-winning Tat Wong Kung Fu Academy.

With costumes each weighing twelve pounds ordered specially from China, the Parade Committee knew there was only one team to go to for the Year of the Horse’s opening act. Parade Director Harlan Wong says, “The Tat Wong Kung Fu Academy has the expertise, discipline, creativity & experience to make our vision a reality. From our very first conversation, they understood exactly what we were trying to achieve and have been amazing to work with.”

The Tat Wong Kung Fu Academy’s 30th anniversary in the Bay Area also marks their 30th appearance in the Chinese New Year Parade. Founder Grandmaster Tat-Mau Wong says, “The process of preparing for the parade starts months in advance. First, our team of instructors creates the choreography, then costumes are decided, students are selected, and rehearsals begin. Typically we feature our younger students, however, this year, with the size & weight of the warrior costumes, it’s our older students that were needed. But this also gave us a chance to do very intricate formations and staging.”

The Tat Wong Kung Fu Academy is known as one of the top martial art schools in the country. They have been named ‘Best of the Bay’ by the San Franciso Bay Guardian, and ‘Family Favorite’ by Parent Magazine. Grandmaster Wong has been recognized as ‘One of the most influential martial artists of the century’ by Inside Kung Fu Magazine

The Academy’s three Bay Area schools in San Francisco, San Mateo & Concord supplied the Terracotta Warrior performers. Many of them are gold medal international champions and have been training with the Academy & performing in the parade since they were very young.
