Iconic Guitarist Wayne Kramer Signs Label Distribution Deal with INgrooves Music Group

Forthcoming Free Jazz Album To Be Released on Record Store Day Is A Career First

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, USA, February 12, 2014 /EINPresswire.com/ -- --- After an eight-year focus as a film and television composer, Wayne Kramer will release the long-awaited “Lexington”. It’s not only Kramer’s first full-length jazz album, but also his first full-length solo release in 14 years. Written and recorded with legendary Detroit trumpeter Dr. Charles Moore (Contemporary Jazz Quintet), it will be available on April 19, 2014 (Record Store Day). A lifetime of friendship and collaboration is captured in a language of free jazz improvisation unlike any other recording in its genre. As horn arranger for the MC5’s acclaimed “High Time” album, Moore’s history with Kramer reaches way back to teenage years in inner city Detroit.

“This record is a ride through downtown Detroit with a stop at the Village Vanguard via Cell Block B. I trust that anyone who loves music will take this ride along with me,” says Kramer. Lexington is the inaugural release from Kramer’s new record label Industrial Amusement. The distribution deal with INgrooves is worldwide. Wayne Kramer is the album’s producer. Lexington will be released autographed and numbered on limited edition vinyl, for fans and collectors.

When asked about the album’s title, “I had buried my penitentiary experience in my psyche, but after a few years I started looking inward into how I became who I am. Everything significant that I had experienced finally intersected — being a musician, politics, crime, ambition, art — and the effects were profound. At the same time, I was scoring a film for PBS called “The Narcotic Farm” about the very institution I served my sentence in, and it occurred to me that this could be more than just a film score about what it was like for me to live under lock and key. Rather, this could be the musical narrative of the second half of my adult life.”

Lexington features trombonist Phil Ranelin (The Tribe), Armenian piano prodigy Tigran Hamasyan, and multi-instrumentalist Ralph “Buzzy” Jones (Yusef Lateef) on reeds. Extraordinary percussionists Brock Avery and Eric Gardner contribute throughout, as does electric bassist Doug Lunn. Each has recorded and toured with Kramer since his prolific releases during the 1990s. Even renowned Detroit acoustic bassist Bob Hurst makes an appearance on two of the album’s tracks. Going forward, the band will be referred to as Wayne Kramer & The Lexington Arts Ensemble.

“We’d been searching for the right partner for Lexington — which percolated for so long and is so significant in experience to Wayne — but also a distributor to build a long-term relationship with,” notes label co-founder Margaret Saadi Kramer. “INgrooves’ staff was so enthusiastic and their reach is global. We couldn’t be more pleased to be working with such a smart and genuine group of music fans.”

“Wayne is a legendary guitarist and a groundbreaking composer and we are beyond thrilled to be working with him on this amazing new album,” said INgrooves Music Group General Manager, Amy Dietz. “And what better day to debut this first album from Industrial Amusement than on Record Store Day. Wayne and Margaret could have chosen any distributor in the world to work with and we are honored they picked INgrooves.”

After a revealing 1-on-1 interview at the Grammy Museum in 2013, Kramer teased the standing room only audience with a scorching performance of the album’s single, “Chasing A Fire Engine”. Preview it here: http://tinyurl.com/GrammyWK.
