Gazprom Neft completes build on first branch of Avangard Ice Hockey Academy, Yamal
4 December 2013, press releaseDecember 4saw the opening ofthe biggest ice arena inYamal— the Avangard Hockey Academy, Tarko-Sale, constructed byGazprom Neft aspart ofamajor inter-regional project toconstruct region-wide hockey training facilities for children and young people. The opening was attended byGazprom Neft CEO Alexander Dyukov and Governor ofthe Yamalo-Nenetsky Autonomous Area, Dmitry Kobylkin.
The ice arena isthe first branch ofwhat will ultimately become the Avangard Ice Hockey Academy. The aim ofthis project istoestablish anetwork oftraining facilities for children and teenagers, throughout various regions ofRussia. The Academy isbeing established under the auspices ofthe Avangard Ice Hockey Club (Omsk Region).
The complex has nopeer anywhere inYamal, either interms ofsize orfacilities, and isthe only Olympic-sized ice arena inthe region, with equipment and re-freezing facilities toensure anoptimum surface quality atall times. The9,000m3 building also houses amulti-purpose sports hall, several gyms, and group-class facilities. Coaches from Omsk are expected tobegin organizing children’s training groups within the next few months.
Over the next two years branches ofthe Academy will bebuilt intwo other Yamal cities, Noyabrsk and Muravlenko.
Gazprom Neft CEO Alexander Dyukov commented: “Today sees the opening ofthe first ice complex ofwhat will become aseries ofice hockey centers for children and young people, built under ajoint program between Gazprom Neft and the Government ofthe Yamalo-Nenetsky Autonomous Area. Yamal itself has become our key partner inestablishing the Avangard Ice Hockey Academy branch network, which will ensure consistent training and education, selection principles and sports technologies, under asingle brand. The best trainees from each branch will beable tocontinue training atthe Academy’s center inOmsk, construction ofwhich isdue tocommence next year.”
Governor Dmitry Kobylkin added: “Those multi-purpose ice complexes being built with Gazprom Neft’s support aspart ofits Native Cities CSR program will promote not only ice hockey, but other sports aswell, all ofwhich will greatly improve the quality oflife inYamal. Most ofGazprom Neft’s oil production currently takes place inYamal. Weappreciate the company’s contribution tothe region’s social development. Yamal and Gazprom Neft have anumber ofkey objectives incommon, and weintend tocontinue our cooperation here.”

The city ofTarko-Sale was founded in1933as the administrative center ofthe Purovsksy District, Yamalo-Nenetsky Autonomous Area. The district has apopulation of52,000, 30,000 ofwhom live inTarko-Sale. Surrounded bymarshland and taiga forests, the city’s only links with many communities during the summer are byriver transport and helicopters and, inwinter, roads over frozen water and land. Winter lasts from October through May. The average annual temperature is —7oC.

Approximately 120 fields have been developed inthe area, with commercially viable reserves ofabout 18trillion cubic meters ofgas and 6billion tons ofliquid hydrocarbons. These are currently being developed bysome ofthe most significant industry players, including Gazpromneft-Noyabrskneftegaz and Gazpromneft —Muravlenko.
