World Cultural Council presents awards to distinguished scientists and artists who have made notable contributions towards humanity

MEXICO CITY, MEXICO CITY, MEXICO, September 27, 2013 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The Nanyang Technological University in Singapore will host the 30th Annual World Cultural Council Award Ceremony on October 2nd, 2013. During the event, Sir Paul Nurse, President of the Royal Society (United Kingdom), will receive the Albert Einstein World Award of Science as recognition for his research in cell cycle regulation. Also, Professor Petteri Nisunen and Mr. Tommi Grönlund will receive the Leonardo Da Vinci World Award of Arts due to their unique approach towards contemporary arts, and creative innovation.

Each year, the World Cultural Council honors scientists by conferring the Albert Einstein World Award of Science, which was created as a mean of recognition to those men and women who have accomplished scientific and technological achievements, which have brought progress to science, and ensuing benefit to mankind.

Sir Paul Nurse is one of the world's foremost biochemists and geneticists. In the 1980s, he made a scientific discovery when he identified a number of key regulatory proteins that control the yeast cell cycle. His further studies have led to the current widely accepted models that find strong similarities among proteins, their activities and their biochemical modes of regulation throughout all eukaryotic organisms. His research is especially important for the understanding of biology and medicine in respect to cancer and other serious diseases, bringing a closer to prevention and a cure.
Nurse received the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2001, and the Copley medal in 2005.

Every other year, the Council recognizes artists by presenting the Leonardo Da Vinci World Award of Arts, which is conferred upon a renowned artist, sculptor, writer, poet, cinematographer, photographer, architect, musician or other performing artist, whose work constitutes a significant contribution to the artistic legacy of the world.

Peter Nisunen and Tommi Grönlund´s interdisciplinary approach brings together art, design, architecture and science. Their large-scale spatial interventions involve a variety of materials and technologies, from the use of objects to light and sound. Their works tend to change or reshape space and stimulate sensory perception through direct intervention, often with complex technical installations. The artists are not committed to one medium only, but are endlessly curious, capable of moving between disciplines and changing approaches.
