Satish Babu Elected to ICANN's NomCom
Satish Babu, the Director of ICFOSS,has been declared elected to the 2014 Nominating Committee(NomCom) of ICANN.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM,KERALA, July 17, 2013 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Trivandrum, July 17, 2013: Satish Babu, the Director of International Centre for Free and Open Source Software (ICFOSS), has been declared elected to the 2014 Nominating Committee (NomCom) of Internet Corporation for Assigned Numbers and Names (ICANN). He has been the past national President of the Computer Society of India, and the past Chair, IEEE Kerala Section,ICANN is a US-based not-for-profit corporation that oversees the governance and management of several critical aspects of the Internet, including Top Level Domain Names (TLDs), IP addresses (including the emerging standard, IPv6), Registries & Registrars, Internet Protocols, Root Domain Servers and Internationalized domain names (IDNs).
ICANN follows a multi-stakeholder model, bringing together diverse constituencies such as Governments (representatives from 111 states from around the world), UN organizations, business & industry, technical communities, and Internet users around the world, for the Governance of the Internet.
The NomCom of ICANN is responsible for identifying individuals for specific leadership positions within the organization. Satish Babu has been elected to the 2014 NomCom as a Voting Member representing the user communities in the Asia-Pacific region. He is also member of several other Working Groups of ICANN.
From March 2011, Satish Babu is the Director of the International Center for Free and Open Source Software (ICFOSS), an institution founded by the Government of Kerala, and mandated with promotion of FOSS. ICFOSS runs several activities in the FOSS domain, including pre-incubation services to groups of entrepreneurs & students, training & capacity building, consultancy, Research & Development and international advocacy.
Satish Babu was the Chair of IEEE Kerala Section during 2011 and 2012.
About IEEE Kerala Section
IEEE has been active in Kerala for the last 33 years. Initiated in 1975 as a subsection under the India section, IEEE Kerala has been very active since its formation. Today IEEE Kerala has around 1500 members including student members. It has a Computer Society Chapter, a Power engineering society chapter, a joint Chapter on Industry applications and Industrial Electronics Society and a Communication Society Chapter. The student branches have been established in 60 engineering colleges in the State.
