FDF Scoops Award for Water Campaign
10 July 2013
The Food and Drink Federation's (FDF) Every Last Drop campaign has scooped an award for Water Management Project of the Year at the businessGreen Leaders Awards 2013.
The Awards were more competitive than ever with over 200 entries whittled down to the shortlist, each one a demonstration of the green economy's commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility.
FDF's Every Last Drop (ELD) Campaign, developed with the help of FDF's Water Working Group, aims to raise awareness amongst food and drink companies of the issue of water stress, and to provide practical easily-accessible guidance on how businesses can be more water efficient. As part of the on-going campaign work for ELD, FDF has created a handy guidance leaflet, some awareness raising tools, including three downloadable posters and a series of videos targeted at different audiences.
The ELD campaign builds on the work under the Federation House Commitment (FHC), a responsibility deal set up to improve the water efficiency in the food and drink manufacturing sector in terms of water used in operations. FDF and its members have committed to reduce water use by 20% by 2020 compared to 2007. According to the FHC Progress Report published in July 2012, collectively the FHC signatory companies have made water savings of 14.4%, equating to 2,400 Olympic sized swimming pools between 2007 and 2011.
Andrew Kuyk, FDF's Director of Sustainability said:
“We are thrilled that our campaign has won Water Management Programme of the Year. The food and drink industry is particularly reliant on the supply of freshwater for both raw materials and manufacturing needs. Through FDF's ongoing work, t he Every Last Drop campaign is a prime example of how an industry can work together to promote water efficiency right across the supply chain”.
Inder Poonaji, Chair of FDF's Water Working Group said:
“We are delighted our campaign, the Every Last Drop, has been recognised by this prestigious award. We all have a responsibility to manage our natural resources in a sustainable way and I hope this campaign continues to raise awareness in the food chain of the importance of effective water management.”
