ICFOSS and IIITM-K to hold 3-day Programme for Academic & Research Institutions

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM,KERALA, July 8, 2013 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Trivandrum, July 8, 2013: In order to popularize new technologies among the academic community in Kerala, ICFOSS, Technopark and IIITM-K, Technopark are jointly organizing the 3rd edition on Information Delivery Systems for Academic and Research Institutions (IDSARI 3.0), from 24th to 26th July 2013. Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) such as Moodle (Modular Object-Oriented dynamic Learning Envrionment) and the popular application Dspace will be discussed in this three-day session.

Moodle is today being used for end-to-end management of courses in the top educational institutions around the world. As of January 2013, it is estimated that over 70 million students use Moodle to access 7.5 million courses, administered by 1.2 million teachers globally (Source: Moodle stats page at http://moodle.org).

Another popular application used extensively by academic and research community is Dspace, which enables the creation and maintenance of digital libraries that contain a variety of information artifacts in formats such as text, images, audio, video, animation, web links and code.

As both Moodle and DSpace are FOSS-based, and are both also free of cost, these are ideal platforms for use by educational institutions in Kerala.

The three-day programme, which will consist of theory and hands-on sessions, is targeted at Course administrators, students, faculty, librarians and programme coordinators in academic and research institutions. The programme will cover the basics of relevant FOSS-based applications for information storage, delivery and management, demo & hands of session on popular applications such as DSpace and Moodle, as well as provide a background to the global trends in the use of these technologies.

Participants of the programme need to be graduates with exposure to computers and the Internet. The program has 40 seats that will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.
