New cyber security directive and what it will mean for European businesses

/EINPresswire.com/ The Netherlands, Benelux, 23 May 2013 – Published in February 2013, the EU cyber security directive proposes to heighten measures on information security, ensuring a high level of cyber security throughout the EU.

For the first time, organisations across Europe will be under legal obligation to ensure they have a suitable level of IT security in place. Although this will mean a boost in the IT industry across the EU, many organisations (both small and large) will be put under as much regulation as a telecommunication’s company in terms of securing their IT.

Whilst the directive aims to improve the level of cyber security throughout Europe, many small businesses will be concerned over the potential cost of securing their IT systems. Alan Calder, CEO of IT Governance Ltd and European cyber security expert, states:

“Increasing levels of cyber security doesn’t have to be an expensive project. There are many cost-effective solutions out there for smaller businesses. From staff training to documentation toolkits, there are endless possibilities for SMEs with a smaller budget which can be just as effective. Enhancing levels of cyber security within businesses will no doubt increase security levels, whilst enhancing brand reputation and strengthening customer relationships.”

IT Governance, the European cyber security specialists, have a number of affordable solutions for SMEs looking to meet the EU requirements in a certain time frame and at a cost that is manageable.
