While not in use the lock is tucked away inside of the seat post, so you can ride carefree, without worrying if you left your lock at home. The InterLock, designed by Adrian Solgaard Janzen of Solgaard Design is being dubbed as “The most convenient bike lock ever”.
The InterLock is beautifully and simply designed. Two cables offer enough length to go through the rear of the bike frame, through the rear wheel and around a post or bike rack. The innovation that went into this design was key. One cable simply wouldn’t be long enough, and with limited space dimensions on most bikes, the decision was made to have two cables coming out of the seat post.
The cables are 8mm braided steel cable with a thin vinyl coating, to prevent scratching the bike frame. The cables are 450mm (20 inches) each, with a total length of 900 mm (40 inches). When the cable is tucked away, it clicks in to make sure it doesn’t slide out of place while riding over rough terrain.
The InterLock adds about half a kilogram (1lb) to the weight of your bike, which is just the weight of the lock. With it’s innovative and sleek design, it is easy to use and hassle free.
There are a few ways you can use the InterLock, you can simply put the InterLock cable through the frame of your bike, or you can use the InterLock in conjunction with a U-Lock in high risk areas to secure the seat and rear wheel to the bike.
Adrian Solgaard Janzen, the creator of the Interlock, came up with the idea because he was tired of carrying around his lock ‘’I wanted a design that could allow people to focus on riding their bikes and enjoying the sunshine, without the annoying soundtrack of a clunky lock rattling away! I wanted something convenient and affordable for everyone.’’
As a result of the InterLock’s patented design, it is compatible with virtually any bike, making it easy to use for any level of rider. The lock will retail for an estimated $50 USD. However, if you make pledge on Kickstarter* for $39 dollars before February 5th, you will receive your InterLock in May 2013, before it hits stores shelves.
