Bachmann Statement About Memorial Day

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (MN-06) released the following statement about Memorial Day:

“While it’s tempting to get caught up with barbecues and visits to the cabin today, it’s important we remember that Memorial Day is not merely a day off from work. As you enjoy your three day weekend, I ask that you take a moment to remember the true reason for this annual holiday.

“Since the founding of this nation, many lives have been lost on the battlefield. From the American Revolution to the mountains of Afghanistan, our men and women in uniform have selflessly stepped up and made sacrifices to defend this great nation. We must ensure that their fight in defense of freedom and liberty was not in vain and will not be soon forgotten by continuing to fight against tyranny and oppression in every form.

“This holiday, thank a soldier. Pay tribute to the sacrifices of the fallen, and those of their families, knowing that the world is a safer place because of them. Most importantly, resolve to keep alive the memory of the soldiers we have lost. They have given their lives for our freedom; for that, we are forever grateful.”

Today, Bachmann visited the Disabled Veterans Rest Camp for a ceremony honoring the fallen. Located on the scenic St. Croix River in Marine on the St. Croix, Minn., the Disabled Veterans Rest Camp is open to all active duty, reservist, retired and disabled members of our military forces for vacation, rest and recreation.
