FY26 Close Out

MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. – As the 2026 fiscal year came to a close, Airmen across McConnell Air Force Base worked to finalize requirements, reconcile accounts and ensure taxpayer resources are properly accounted for.

The 22nd Comptroller Squadron Financial Management Budget Flight’s closeout represents the culmination of a year of financial planning and support across the installation. This year, the flight completed its closeout hours earlier than any other Air Mobility Command base, an accomplishment attributed to the team’s work throughout the entire fiscal year.

“This accomplishment reflects our long hours, attention to detail and consistent effort throughout the year,” said Staff Sgt. Mayor Segan, 22nd CPTS noncommissioned officer in charge of financial management budget flight.

Completing closeout ahead of other AMC bases is more than a measure of speed. For the budget flight, it demonstrates the importance of consistent financial management throughout the year and provides McConnell leaders with reliable financial information as the installation transitions into the next fiscal year.

“A successful closeout is more than spending the final dollars of the year,” Segan said. “It reflects the budget flight’s commitment to supporting the mission and supporting the Airmen, while also providing leaders with reliable financial information and being good stewards of taxpayer resources.”

During closeout, Airmen review process final requirements, reconcile accounts and resolve outstanding issues before the fiscal year ends.

The team also verifies documentation and ensures funds were used appropriately, helping maintain accountability for taxpayer resources.

The budget flight works with organizations throughout McConnell to ensure units have the funding and financial support needed to accomplish their missions. Throughout the year, the team reviews funding requests, processes financial actions, monitors expenditures and helps resolve financial issues.

“It takes a lot of coordination to make sure units receive the support they need while maintaining accountability and compliance,” Segan said.

The flight also provides commanders with an accurate picture of their organizations’ financial positions, allowing leaders to make informed decisions while ensuring funds are used for their intended purposes.

The work directly supports McConnell’s mission of providing air refueling and global reach. Funding managed by the budget flight can support equipment, supplies, training, contracts, travel and other requirements that allow Airmen to operate around the world.

With fiscal year 2027 underway, the budget flight continues supporting McConnell’s mission by ensuring organizations have the resources and financial guidance necessary to execute operations around the world.

“The 2026 fiscal year has been especially challenging with multiple government shutdowns and high visibility conflicts that McConnell has participated in,” said Maj. Wilson Sprier, 22nd CPTS commander. “Through this chaos, it was a testament to the professionalism and skill of the 22nd CPTS, the 22nd Contracting Squadron, and all the resource advisors across the base that could make closeout so successful and obligating around $95 million to support the installation and fund the mission.”
