More care, all in one place
More care, all in one place
For Soldiers, getting medical care shouldn’t mean spending extra time traveling from one location to another just to complete the same appointment.
That was the idea behind the recent consolidation of care from Yoakum-Defrenn Army Heliport Aviation Clinic, formerly TMC 12, to Thomas Moore Health Clinic. The move placed Soldiers at a location where they could access more of the services they need in one place, reducing the need to travel to multiple locations for care.
“This move means that Soldiers don’t have to worry about receiving care at two, sometimes three, different locations,” said Lt. Col. Brenda Mitchell, officer in charge of Thomas Moore Health Clinic. “The convenience of having all their appointments located at TMHC gives them the opportunity to make all their appointments and get all their medical care done at one location.”
Thomas Moore offers pharmacy, radiology, optometry, hearing conservation, laboratory services, and immunizations. Soldiers who previously received care at Yoakum-Defrenn often had to travel to Thomas Moore to access those services.
“Being able to obtain prescriptions and complete X-rays and testing in the same location means Soldiers spend less time traveling between facilities and more time where they need to be —with their units,” said Kurt A. Gustafson, deputy chief, Department of Soldier Medicine.
The consolidation also improved the efficiency of flight physicals for pilots and air crews assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division’s 1st Air Cavalry Brigade by bringing supporting services closer together.
For Soldiers, the change is simple: more of their care, in one place.
“The primary intent is to improve medical care and medical readiness for the 1st Air Cavalry Brigade Troopers,” Gustafson said.
“The Department of Soldier Medicine is always looking for ways to improve our processes and simplify medical care for Soldiers,” said Col. Tommy Thompson, chief, Department of Soldier Medicine.“This consolidation into Thomas Moore brings all elements of 1st Cavalry Division under one roof.”
The move also allowed the Army to repurpose the Yoakum-Defrenn facility for 1st Air Cavalry Brigade holistic health and fitness use, giving Soldiers and providers additional space while making better use of existing resources.
“It’s a change for the better,” Mitchell said.
