Climate, Environment, and Conservation: U.S. Co-Sponsors Export Control Conference
Media Note
Control Conference will be held in Portoroz, Slovenia, May 7-9, co-sponsored by the Department of State’s Export Control and Related Border Security Program (EXBS) and the European Union, and hosted by the Government of Slovenia. This conference will bring together 300 delegates from 80 countries and international organizations to share best practices in strategic trade management, industry compliance, and export enforcement.
Assistant Secretary of State for International Security and Nonproliferation, Thomas M. Countryman will lead the U.S. delegation and make opening remarks on May 7. Other notable conference speakers include U.S. Ambassador to Slovenia Joseph A. Mussomeli; State Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia Dr. Božo Cerar; Head of the Wassenaar Arrangement Secretariat Ambassador Sune Danielsson; and Chair of the Missile Technology Control Regime Ambassador Roberto Garcia Moritan.
For over a decade, this annual event has provided a forum for international export control practitioners to explore common challenges, identify and discuss practical solutions, and establish regional and global contacts to enhance international cooperation on strategic trade controls. The theme of this year’s conference is “Partnerships for Nonproliferation.” This event will build on last year’s theme of creating a “network of nonproliferators” to combat illicit transfers and prevent proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, in order to strengthen the connections that bind the nonproliferation network together.
