Polling Shows NV-02 in a Dead Heat

Recent polling shows the race in NV-02 within the margin of error as David Flippo’s fraud, dishonesty, and Trump-first agenda catch up to him. This poll is only the latest sign that the district is in play as national forecasters shift NV-02 towards Democrats, outgoing Representative Mark Amodei tears into Flippo, and the NV GOP and NRCC Deputy Chairman stoop to “making stuff up” about Teresa Benitez-Thompson because they can’t find anything real to criticize.

National Journal Hotline: As map settles, Dems look to northern Nevada for longshot opportunity

Key points:

  • The Strategies 360 survey found 2024 NV-04 candidate David Flippo (R) leading former state Rep. Teresa Benitez-Thompson (D) within the margin of error, 45%-42%. Lynn Chapman, the conservative Independent American Party’s nominee, received 7% in the poll.
  • A generic-ballot test of the district found a tight race, with 48% saying they’d back a Republican and 46% saying they’d support a Democrat. President Trump is 8 points underwater in the poll: 46% approve and 54% disapprove
  • The Republican field is fractured.
  • Amodei has refused to endorse Flippo, his likely successor, saying the GOP nominee was “not my cup of tea.”
  • Democrats have also sought to tag Flippo as opportunistic after he dropped an NV-04 campaign and switched to NV-02 after Amodei announced his retirement.
  • The DCCC has its eyes on the district as well, placing it on the committee’s Districts in Play list.

Associated Press: Here’s a look at ‘reach’ election races where Democrats hope to pull off House upsets

Key points:

  • Trump endorsed small business owner and retired Air Force Lt. Col. David Flippo, who won the primary despite Amodei calling the president’s choice “a mistake.”
  • Flippo faces Teresa Benitez-Thompson, a social worker, former majority leader of the Nevada legislature and onetime Miss America contestant who left her seat in 2024 due to term limits.
  • Benitez-Thompson is arguing that she can push back on federal overreach. Flippo says he would solidify the district’s place in Trump’s “Make America Great Again” movement.”
