The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest of the suspect in a homicide that occurred in Northeast.

On Sunday, August 16, 2026, at approximately 8:27 a.m., Fifth District officers responded for the report of an unconscious person in the 200 block of K Street, Northeast. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male with visible injuries who was unconscious and not breathing inside of a residence. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and found no signs consistent with life and pronounced the victim dead. The victim was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy.

Based on the scene investigation probable cause was established to make an arrest. This case is domestic in nature.

The victim has been identified as 81-year-old John Wesley Knight Jr., of Northeast, D.C.

63-year-old Sherry Lou Sanders, of Northeast, D.C. was charged with Second Degree Murder.
