Sen. Ingwersen issues statement on fatal shooting by ICE in Biddeford

BIDDEFORD — Today, Sen. Henry Ingwersen, D-Arundel, issued the following statement in response to Monday’s fatal shooting by an ICE agent in Biddeford.

“I am sad and angry that a piece of Biddeford’s heart was torn out by this unnecessary shooting. This city, like many in Maine, was built by immigrants, including the mills and smokestack that stood over us last night as our community came together to mourn this tragedy.

A full, transparent and independent investigation — conducted by the Maine Attorney General’s office and other state agencies — is absolutely essential. I am glad to hear that one is already underway.

Finally, my heart goes out to the family of the victim, and to the beautiful and diverse Biddeford community I am so proud to serve.”

Sen. Ingwersen represents Arundel, Biddeford, Dayton, Hollis and Lyman in the Maine Senate. He is serving his second term.
