Cumberland County Weights & Measures is dedicated to protecting consumers and supporting fair business practices throughout the county.

As gasoline and diesel prices continue to change, many residents have questions about fuel pricing. While CCWM helps ensure fairness at the pump, CCWM does not set, control, or regulate gas prices. Fuel prices are determined by market conditions, suppliers, and individual retailers.

What CCWM does regulate is the accuracy and fairness of fuel sales. Each year, inspectors examine all gasoline dispensing pumps in Cumberland County to make sure pumps are measuring fuel correctly, so customers receive the amount of fuel they pay for.

CCWM also performs additional fuel quality checks, including:

• Testing underground storage tanks for water contamination
• Conducting octane testing on various gasoline grades
• Investigating consumer complaints involving fuel sales accuracy
  

If problems or violations are found, enforcement actions may include fines or temporarily shutting down pumps or stations until the issue is corrected.
