DMV Extends Expiration Dates

CRANSTON, R.I. -- On February 22, 2026, Governor Daniel J. McKee issued Executive Order 26-02 declaring a state of emergency for the State of Rhode Island due to the dangers to health and safety posed by the blizzard which occurred on February 22-23, 2026.  Based on this declaration, the Division of Motor Vehicles hereby exercises its authority, pursuant to R.I. Gen. Laws § 31-2-28, to extend the following expiration dates: 

  • All Rhode Island driver’s licenses, permits, and identification cards set to expire between February 1, 2026 and February 28, 2026, shall now expire on March 31, 2026.  This extension does not include non-domiciled commercial driver’s licenses or commercial learner’s permits.
  • All Rhode Island registrations set to expire on February 28, 2026, shall now expire on March 31, 2026.
  • All Rhode Island inspection certificates/stickers set to expire on February 28, 2026, shall now expire on March 31, 2026.
  • All Rhode Island disability parking privilege placards set to expire between February 1, 2026, and February 28, 2026, shall now expire on March 31, 2026.
